Campfire Foil Burgers

Cooking on a campfire provides a unique and flavorful experience that cannot be replicated with conventional cooking methods. The natural smoke and flames from the fire infuse the food with a delicious smoky flavor that is hard to resist. The simplicity of cooking over an open flame also enhances the natural flavors of the food, resulting in a rustic, hearty taste that satisfies the senses. Whether it’s roasting marshmallows, grilling burgers, or cooking a pot of chili, the taste of food cooked on a campfire is unmatched and brings people together around the fire.

One of our Riveted Retreat guests recently cooked a delicious burger recipe over the fire pit that we couldn’t resist trying for ourselves. This recipe was easy to prep and cook over the campfire! It’s perfect for anyone looking for a fun and unique way to cook outdoors and enjoy a delicious meal.

Campfire Foil Burgers

Ingredients

  • seasoned burgers (we love Sam’s burgers & grub rub seasoning – not sponsored, just easy!)
  • 1-2 potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounce mushrooms, sliced or quartered
  • 1/2 yellow or red onion, sliced
  • 1-2 peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon avocado or olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon parsley
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cabbage or lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Condiments

Instructions:

  1. Prepare a campfire – you’ll want a fire with hot coals and minimal flames.
  2. Cut 2 strips of heavy-duty aluminum foil, each about 2 feet long.
  3. Toss the potatoes, mushrooms, and onions with olive oil and seasonings.
  4. Lay a cabbage leaf on the bottom of each foil strip before adding the veggies. This prevents the edges of the burger from getting too charred.
  5. Add a burger patty on top of the veggies.
  6. Place the foil packet directly on the coals and cook for 20-25 minutes. Rotate it every 5 or so minutes (depending on the heat of the fire). For a grill, place the foil packets directly on the grill grates and cover the grill. Cook for 25-30 minutes or until the burger reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Carefully unwrap the packets, avoiding the hot steam. If desired, add a slice of cheese on top of each burger and reseal the packet for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
  8. Serve the burgers with your favorite toppings.

You can customize this recipe to your own liking with a variety of veggies. We hope you love it as much as we do!
